Saints women's basketball falls to Union, 53-43

Three members of the Union squad scored double digits to lead the Dutchwomen to a 53-43 win over the St. Lawrence University women's basketball team in Liberty League play on Friday evening in Burkman Gymnasium.

First-year Chelsea Van Tassel led the Saints with eight points, eight rebounds and four steals, while Katie Frederick recorded eight points and seven rebounds.

St. Lawrence posted a slight 12-10 advantage after 10 minutes of play. The Saints maintained their lead through the first part of the second quarter, but the Dutchwomen battled through three ties and the score remained tied 24-24 at halftime.

A 3-pointer from Nicole Conley at 7:43 of the third gave the Union a 29-26 advantage and the Dutchwomen maintained their lead throughout the remainder of play, outscoring the Saints 29-19 in the second half for the win.

Sophie Borg led Union with 19 points, shooting 7-for-15 from the floor and 5-for-5 from the line, while Conley scored 11 points and Elly Vaughan recorded 10 points and a team-high nine rebounds. Darby Leid grabbed three steals for the Dutchwomen.

Union shot 36.0% from the floor and held the Saints to 29.4% shooting. The Dutchwomen recorded 21 points off turnovers, while the Saints recorded 12 second-chance points and 22 points off the bench.

St. Lawrence fell to 7-15 on the season and 4-11 in conference play, while Union improved to 13-7 and 8-6.

The Saints will host Ithaca on senior day, Saturday, February 9. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m.
