Canton, NY – Matthew Russell finished with a round of 4-over par, 76, to lead the SUNY Canton men's golf team on the first day of the North Country Shootout on Saturday at Oliver D. Appleton Golf Course in Canton.
The Roos sit in third place out of six teams with 319 strokes after the opening day of competition. The teams will complete the tournament with 18 holes on Sunday at Potsdam Town & Country Club. Clarkson shot an impressive team score of 297 to lead second place St. Lawrence 'A' (306).
Devin Page posted his second-best round of the season with a 78, while Josh Marshall finished with an 80. Azzat Almasri rounded out the Roos top four with an 85, while Tom Rancour posted a 90. Nick Messerschmidt competed as an individual with a round of 84.
