POTSDAM, N.Y.—No. 8/9 Oswego State (15-4, 9-3 ECAC West) halted the SUNY Potsdam's women's hockey team's (11-7-1, 7-4-1) four-game winning streak with a 3-2 victory at Maxcy Ice Arena on Saturday afternoon. Junior assistant captain Anna-Rose Bertin (Marathon, Ontario/Canadian International Hockey Academy) and freshman defenseman Delphine Léonard (Montreal, Quebec/Dawson College Prep) each scored for the Bears.

Senior Kendall Appelbaum (Buffalo, N.Y./Buffalo Bison) gave the Lakers their first lead of the weekend with a power-play goal at 16:24 of the first period. Potsdam outshot Oswego 11-8, but trailed 1-0 after one.

Neither team was able to take advantage of their first power play of the second period, but the Bears made the most of their second. The Lakers were called for interference with 1:11 left. With just four seconds on the clock, Bertin struck with an assist from senior forward Jordan Ott (Hilton, N.Y./Rochester Edge) to tie the game.

Three goals were scored in the third period. Junior forward Olivia Ellis (Wilcox, Saskatchewan/Notre Dame Hounds) made it 2-1 at 1:27. Nearly 11 minutes later, senior captain Ashley Lyman (Lockport, N.Y./Buffalo Bison) netted the eventual game-winner. Léonard made it 3-2 with 1:07 remaining. Junior forwards Jaci Morr (Monroe, Mich./Team Detroit) and Brenna Wilson (Kanata, Ontario/Ottawa Senators) recorded the assists. Bears freshman goalie Alexa Pfeiffer (Sylvania, Ohio/Little Caesar's) was pulled with 48 seconds remaining, but the score remained the same.

Pfeiffer finished with 29 saves and Lakers junior goalie Mariah Madrigal (Brownstown, Mich./Team Detroit) stopped 23 shots for the win.

Both teams were 1-for-3 on the power play. With the defeat, Potsdam slips into fifth place, just one point behind Buffalo State. The Bears are just three points behind the Lakers for third.

Potsdam is back in action next Saturday when the Bears host top-ranked Plattsburgh at 3 p.m.
