Canton, NY - With just a single shot and only one corner kick allowed, the Clarkson University Women's Soccer team's defense certainly limited the chances of its opponents Tuesday night, and a pair of goals in the first 30 minutes was more than enough as the Golden Knights shut out SUNY Canton 2-0 Wednesday night in non-league action.
The Knights improved to 8-4-1 overall on the season, the most victories for the program since 1999. Clarkson picked up 11 victories in 1992, the top figure in theCN
30-year history of Clarkson Women's Soccer. Canton fell to 4-11-0 overall.
Clarkson gave up just one shot in the entire game but had 10 attempts on goal through the contest, along with a 3-1 edge in corner kicks. The Knights took little time getting on the scoreboard as freshman Taylor Abraham (Canandaigua, NY) tallied her team-high fourth goal of the season, with the assist going to senior Hilary Mosher (Hilton, NY), just 10:37 into the contest. Less than 20 minutes later, freshman Cailey Nieto (Chatham, NY) earned her first collegiate goal and points when her shot crossed the end line at the 29:30 mark, with classmate Taryn Dausman (Syracuse, NY) gaining the assist.
Kim Kenline and Brianna Thibeau (Salem, NY) combined to make one save in the contest, with Kenline earning the victory by shutting out Canton in the first half. Holli-Jo Cota and Colleen Fagan put together seven saves for the Kangaroos.
