Sparked by three unanswered goals in the third period, Clarkson University pulled away from Yale for a 5-2 victory in Game 2 of the ECAC Hockey quarterfinals at Cheel Arena on Saturday night before 2,301 fans to sweep the best-of-three game series 2-0.

The Knights, who defeated the Bulldogs 3-1 in Game 1 on Friday, improve to 24-10-2 overall and advance to Lake Placid this coming weekend for the ECAC Hockey Championship Tournament at the 1980 Herb Brooks Arena.

Junior co-captains Devin Brosseau (St. Lambert, QUE) and Nico Sturm (Augsburg, Germany) played a key role in the win. Brosseau tallied two goals and one assist, while Sturm surpassed the 100-point mark for his career with a goal and an assist. Sophomore Jack Jacome (Caledon, ONT) also tallied a goal and an assist. Freshman Josh Dunne continued his stellar play down the stretch with the game-winning goal to open the Green and Gold's three-goal burst in the final frame.

Tied 2-2 through 40 minutes, Dunne took a pass across the crease by Brosseau and pushed a shot from the side of the net under Yale goaltender Sam Tucker. The play was not originally called a goal, but after an officials' review, Dunne was awarded with his 14th goal of the season at 6:17 and fourth game-winner of his rookie campaign. Freshman Anthony Callin (Middleton, WI) also assisted.

Brosseau made it 4-2, finishing off a breakaway at 10:39, lifting a backhand shot in tight just under the crossbar for his second goal of the night and 12th of the year. Freshman Chris Klack (Georgetown, ONT) assisted.

At 15:53, Sturm closed out the scoring, knocking in a rebound off a Jacome shot while on a 2-on-1 rush for his 14th tally of the season. Junior Haralds Egle (Liepaja, Latvia) also assisted.

Yale, benefiting from three consecutive power plays in the opening minutes, controlled the start of the game, but the Knights' successfully killed on the Bulldogs' man-advantages and struck first with their own power-play goal. Jacome knocked in a pass from Sturm at 16:43 for his fifth goal on the season. With the assist Sturm became the first Golden Knight junior to reach the century mark in points since Erik Cole in the 1999-2000 campaign. Egle also assisted.

Early in the middle frame, Brosseau made it 2-0 with another power-play tally at 1:50.

Yale came back to tie it through two periods with goals late in the stanza by Ted Hart and Jack St. Ivany.

The Bulldogs outshot the Knights 34-30, but junior Jake Kielly (Eden Prairie, MN) was solid in the Clarkson crease with 32 saves. He made nine stops on Yale power plays to help the Knights kill off all five of the visitors' man-advantage chances.

Clarkson went 3-of-7 on the power play.

Yale finishes the season 15-15-2.
