With strong defensive play, timely scoring and a patient ball-control effort the Clarkson University Lacrosse team posted its fourth straight victory and remained perfect in the Liberty League with a convincing 11-4 victory over archrival St. Lawrence University on Wednesday afternoon at Hantz Turf Field.

Liberty League co-Offensive Performer of the Week, junior Eric Gollands (Chelmsford, NY) paced the Golden Knights’ offense with a game-high three goals, and conference co-Defensive Performer of the Week, sophomore Ryan Cole (Orchard Park, NY) backboned a solid defensive effort with seven saves in the Clarkson net.

The Knights, who never trailed against St. Lawrence (3-7, 0-3), held a 5-3 advantage at the half and then broke the game open in the third quarter by outscoring the Saints 5-0 to extend their lead to seven goals through 45 minutes. The teams traded one goal apiece in the final quarter as the Green and Gold posted their second straight win over their North Country foe.

Junior Bryan Huff (Hillsborough, NJ) and sophomore Brendon Shearin (Goffstown, NH) both tallied two goals and one assist for the Knights. Senior Tyler Long (Liverpool, NY) scored twice and sophomores Kyle Kasprzyk (Orchard Park, NY) and Jeff Sciera (DeWitt, NY) added one goal and one assist each. Senior Josh Flacke (Schenectady, NY) rounded out the Clarkson scoring with one assist.

Four different players accounted for the St. Lawrence scoring with Alonzo Holcombe leading the way for the Saints with one goal and one assist.

Clarkson outshot St. Lawrence 24-21, while the Saints controlled groundballs 30-25. Cole, seniors Jon Furgal (New Hartford, NY) and Mike Simmons (Clinton, CT), and junior Corey Flanigan (Rochester, NY) each picked up a team-high three groundballs.

Senior defenseman Mike Perkins (Baldwinsville, NY) led a stingy defensive effort with four caused turnovers.

The Golden Knights, who improved their record to 7-4 overall and to 3-0 in the Liberty League, have three games remaining in the regular season and resume action at conference foe Hamilton on Saturday with a 2:00 p.m. game in Clinton, NY.
