Durham, Barry lead Saints in slalom at Bates

The St. Lawrence University alpine ski teams competed in the slalom on Saturday at the 2012 Bates Carnival at Sunday River in Newry, ME. Junior Ashley-Kate Durham and sophomore Caroline Barry led the Saints with 12th and 16th place finishes, respectively.

Durham recorded her second straight 12th place finish with a time of 1:49.37, while Barry's collegiate-best 16th place showing helped St. Lawrence to six place overall. Junior Ann West rounded out the team's scoring at 71.5 points with a 20th place finish.

Also competing in the slalom for the St. Lawrence women's team were first-year students Hannah Kadah (39th) and Allison Visconti (DNF) and senior Mackenzie Irwin.

On the men's side, senior Jeremy Lawless was the top Saint in 27th place overall. The Shelburne Falls, MA native raced in a combined time of 1:54.66, and was joined in the scoring by rookie Loudon Fruth (28th) and senior captain Matt Dodge (32nd). The trio combined for 45.0 points to land in ninth position overall.

Sophomore Dustin Martin (33rd), newcomer Graham Scott (35th) and senior Scott Houser (37th) rounded out St. Lawrence's slalom line-up on Saturday.

Williams College won the women's slalom with 110.0 points, while the University of Vermont claimed the men's title with 141.0 points.

Both the men's and women's alpine teams will be in action again next weekend at the 2012 UNH Carnival on Friday and Saturday, January 27 and 28, at Attitash.
