Clermont, FL – Graduate student Raeanna Dunn recorded seven hits in eight at bats to lead the Clarkson University Softball team's offense on its first day in Florida, as the Golden Knights posted 17 runs overall in wins over Pitt-Greensburg (10-3) and Wheaton College (7-5) on Friday.

The Golden Knights improved to 4-2 on the season and will take on Ursinus and Benedictine on Saturday. Pitt-Greensburg fell to 3-6 while Wheaton dropped to 5-4.

In the first game of the day, the Golden Knights pounded out 14 hits and scored in five of the six innings in which they batted, throwing up crooked numbers in three of the frames. Clarkson scored two in the first when Michele Winn plated Raeanna Dunn with a single and Hannah Bowen came home on an overthrow, and the Knights added two more in the bottom of the second when Maddie Brink delivered a two-run home run to left. Pitt-Greensburg got on the board in the top of the third but a Raeanna Dunn single drove home a run in response to put the score at 5-1.

Pitt-Greensburg tallied two in the top half of the fifth on back-to-back singles, but the Knights put the game away and in the bottom half of the inning. Winn led off with a solo home run to left-center to make it 6-3. Liz Caggiano reached when she was hit by a pitch and Kyrstin Messier put herself and Caggiano in scoring position with a double. Olivia Zoeller then followed with a sacrifice fly and Maddie Brink singled home another run to make the score 8-3. Rylee LeBourveau restarted a rally with a single and a stolen base and came home on yet another hit from Dunn. Clarkson tacked on another run in the bottom of the sixth thanks to a two-out double from Messier which plated Bowen.

Dunn finished 4-for-4 with a run and two more driven in while Winn (2-for-4), Messier (2-for-4), Brink (2-for-3) and LeBourveau (2-for-3) each delivered multi-hit games. Leah Allen picked up the win for Clarkson, striking out four and scattering nine hits in five innings. Zoeller pitched the final two innings, whiffing three and allowing two hits.

Game two was a tighter affair for Clarkson, but once again the Knights never trailed. Clarkson posted two in the top of the first when Dunn led off with a double and came home on a Winn single to left. Liz Caggiano then doubled home Hannah Bowen to put Clarkson up 2-0. Back-to-back doubles from Janette Oh and Kelly Thornton put the Thunder on the board quickly, but Clarkson snuffed out the rally and held the scoring to just a single run in the inning. In the top of the third, Sarah Vaccaro singled home both Messier and Kayla Robert to put the Knights up 4-1, but Maddie Craver drove in two with a double in the bottom half of the inning and Ashley Carver hit a solo home run in the fifth to tie the game at 4-4.

Once again, Dunn was in the middle of a rally in which Clarkson pushed runs across in the sixth, as Dunn singled home pinch-runner Rylee LeBourveau and then came around on a single from Hannah Bowen to make it 6-4. Brink singled home Zoeller in the seventh to give Clarkson a 7-4 cushion. Wheaton was able to score once in the bottom of the seventh on an error, bringing the tying run to the plate. However, Zoeller was able to induce a groundout to end the contest.

Zoeller pitched two innings of relief, allowing a single unearned run on three hits while striking out two, to pick up the win. Sam Mennig started the game, striking out three and allowing a pair of earned runs in five frames. Dunn finished 3-for-4 in game two while both Caggiano (2-for-4) and Vaccaro (2-for-3) also put together multi-hit games.
