Poughkeepsie, NY - With 48 points in the first half, Vassar nearly matched its game total three weeks ago against the Clarkson University Men's Basketball team in Potsdam, and the Golden Knights could not keep pace in an 85-70 Liberty League defeat on Friday night.

The Golden Knights fell to 7-11 overall and 4-5 in the Liberty League, while Vassar inched above .500 in the conference at 5-4 and moved to 9-9 on the season. Clarkson will take on Bard College on Saturday afternoon.

Clarkson scored five of the first seven points of the game in the first few minutes, but Vassar would quickly turn the tables on the Knights with a strong run. In less than five minutes, Vassar flipped a three-point deficit into a 16-point lead with a 20-1 run that was capped by a Jesse Browne layup at the 11:40 mark. Three more minutes of scoring gave Vassar its largest lead of the game at 20 points, 31-11, and though the Knights were able to get back to within 10 points, the Brewers hot shooting would not be stopped and the margin at the half settled at 16 points (48-32). Vassar shot 62.1% overall in the first half and made nine of its 16 3-point field goal attempts. In the first meeting, the Brewers scored just 50 points in the contest and made only seven 3-pointers through 40 minutes.

The lead didn't vary much in the first 10 minutes of the second half, extending to 18 points and dropping to as few as 12, but a Derek Hart layup at 9:52 pulled Clarkson back to within 10 and it appeared as if the Knights were slowly going to get back into the contest. Four minutes later a Felix Abongo basket dropped the margin to only nine points and three minutes after that Mike Hayduk's 3-pointer made things interesting with the Knights down by just eight (78-70), but that basket was the last Clarkson would make as Vassar finished with a 15-point victory.

Hart finished with 20 points, shooting 9-for-13 from the floor, and added nine boards and three blocks. Abongo tossed in 19 points and seven rebounds and Drew Zlogar also had 15 points and six rebounds for Clarkson. Browne finished with 23 points on 8-for-15 shooting for Vassar while Mickey Adams had 18 points and six boards and Erickson Wasyl chipped in 15 points and six rebounds. The Brewers finished with 12 3-pointers in the game, shooting 50% from beyond the arc.
