Canton, NY – Randi Conway led the SUNY Canton women's basketball team with 12 points including eight in a key fourth quarter stretch to help the Roos earn a 56-51 victory against visiting SUNY Delhi at the Roos House on Sunday.
Conway scored eight points on two made field goals and went 4-for-4 down the stretch to help the Roos to the fourth quarter victory.
The Roos (6-19) used a strong first quarter to jump out to an 18-10 lead after 10 minutes of play. SUNY Delhi (13-16) bounced back outscoring
SUNY Canton 11-5 in the second stanza to trim the deficit to just one bucket at 23-21 at intermission.
Paige Whitton led all players with eight points in the first half, while Sade Rogers added six. Samiaya Salley led the Broncos with five points.
The visitors started the second half on a 6-0 run to take a 27-23 lead two minutes in forcing a Roos timeout. The teams traded baskets back-and-forth the remainder of the quarter as the Broncos held a slim 35-33 lead after three.
Whitton hit a three-pointer to start the fourth giving the Roos a brief lead but Salley responded with a bucket inside to regain the one point edge. The teams traded baskets and the lead back-and-forth over the next several minutes with the Roos holding a 49-48 advantage with 2:02 remaining after a Randi Conway jumper.
Katie Herba split a pair of free throws with 1:40 remaining to tie the game and then Sam Acuna and Conway exchanged baskets to remain tied heading under a minute to play. Conway made a pair of free with 39 seconds to play and added to more from the charity stripe with 26 seconds to play to extend the lead to 55-51. Taylor Saltus split a pair of free throws to extend the lead to five and seal the win.
Conway led the Roos with 12 points and 12 rebounds, while Jenifer Morgan-Aubin also recorded a double-double on 10 points and 14 boards. Whitton chipped in with 11 points and Saltus added nine points, eight rebounds and five assists.
This concludes the 2016-17 season for the women's basketball team.
