Clarkson claims both national titles in nordic sprint

The Clarkson University Nordic Ski teams dominated the podium on Tuesday, March 6 at the United States Collegiate Ski Association (USCSA) Championships in Bethel, Maine with first-place finishes for both the Golden Knight Men and Women, earning national champions honors in the Nordic Sprint competition.

In men’s competition, Clarkson showed its dominance with three athletes finishing in the top six of the Nordic sprint. Senior Alex Benway (Queensbury, NY) led the way as national champion with a first-place showing. Classmate Tim Sick (Chambersburg, PA) came in fifth place.

For the Clarkson Women, senior Alyssa Dausman (Syracuse, NY) placed third and classmate Andrea Walsh (Underhill Center, VT) finished fifth.

The 2012 USCSA National Championships runs from March 6 - March 10, 2012 at the Sunday River Ski Resort and the Bethel Nordic Ski Center. The USCSA is the sports federation for collegiate team ski racing and snowboarding in America. The USCSA believes that student-athletes of all levels and abilities should have access to quality and exciting venues of competition. In excess of 178 colleges from coast to coast, fielding over 5,000 male and female, alpine, freestyle, cross-country, snowboarding and nordic ski jumping athletes in over 300 events annually. Team performance is emphasized within the USCSA, a departure from the typical individual or world cup scoring format often found in skiing. USCSA athletes agree that this team orientation fosters a team approach across their collegiate athletic and academic careers, and often the mentality proves indispensable in their adult lives and careers.
