HAMMOND -- State police have charged a Rochester-area man with stealing a boat from the Chippewa Yacht Club Docks after he tried to illegally enter Canada.
On Monday, troopers charged Joseph P. Dileo, 46, of Farmington with third-degree grand larceny.
Troopers allege Dileo stole a a 1988, 19-foot Grady White boat valued at approximately $7,000 with a 2004 Johnson 4 Stroke 115 HP motor on or around Aug. 12.
Ontario Provincial Police found the boat abandoned in a private slip in Rockport, Ontario, Canada, troopers said.
Troopers say they arrested him after Dileo was found by Canada Border Services Agency to have illegally entered their country. He was turned over to troopers, charged with the boat theft, and arraigned in Hammond Town Court where he was turned over to probationary supervision.
