The commemoration program recognizes all who served on active duty in the U.S. Armed Forces during the period Nov. 1, 1955 to May 15, 1975, regardless of duty location; and their families.

We make no distinction between veterans who served in country, in-theater, or who were stationed elsewhere during the Vietnam War period. All were called to serve and none could self-determine where they were stationed.

As a lasting memento of the nation’s gratitude, the commemoration designed a Vietnam veteran lapel pin for commemorative partners to publicly present to each veteran who served during the Vietnam War period.

Living United States veterans who served on active duty in the U.S. armed forces at any time during from Nov. 1, 1955 to May 15, 1975 are eligible to receive one label pin.

The commemoration created a certificate of honor program to recognize four distinct subcategories of Vietnam veterans and their families: Former, living American military POWs from Vietnam War as listed by the Department of Defense; immediate family members of American military personnel listed as missing and unaccounted for from the by the Department of Defense; immediate family members of a veteran who is listed on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington D.C.; and surviving spouses (at the time of death) of veterans who served in the U.S. Armed Forces at any time during the period from Nov. 1, 1955 to May 15, 1975, regardless of location.

We are trying to schedule a ceremony where commemorative lapel pins and certificates of honor. We need our veterans to either email post4@slic.com or write to Amvets Post #4, 12 Andrews St., Massena, NY 13662 with their names, addresses, date of service, in-country or active duty era. Our intention is to schedule the ceremony around May 15, 2019. Unfortunately there are no lists available to us that lists this information because of the Privacy Act.

As soon as we order the pins and certificates we will notify all of the veterans as to the date and location of the ceremonies.

Our committee consists of Chairman James Baker, John Lambert, Ken Kells and Mark Phillips. If you have any questions you may contact one of he members.
