Potsdam Snack Pack Program distributes 8,716 snack packs

Thank you to the people of St. Lawrence County, and beyond, for your incredible support of the Potsdam Snack Pack Program during the 2018-2019 school year! Your generous giving and concern for our young students allowed us to provide snack packs to more than 250 Potsdam Central School students each week.

Our dedicated volunteers prepared and distributed 8,716 snack packs. We also delivered 160 snack packs and fresh breakfast food items (e.g. milk, bread, fruit, yogurt), to students attending a summer program at Lawrence Avenue Elementary. Despite the increase in the number of students served weekly since June 2018, we reached less than 50% of the students eligible for free or reduced lunch.

In addition to all the private food and cash donations, we also received funds from the following businesses and organizations: Arconic, Inc., BJ’s Wholesale Club, Boswell Construction, Canton-Potsdam Hospital, Elks Lodge #2074, Enbridge St. Lawrence Gas, Excel Securities & Associates, Franklin St. Law NYSUT Retirees, Health Initiative, InterVarsity Christian Fellowship, Inspired Healing, Kolanko, Inc. (Agway), Lifestyle Salon, MD Abner Badminton Club, New Hope Community Church, North Country Savings Bank, Potsdam United Methodist Church, Riverview Correctional Facility, Stewart’s Shops, SUNY Potsdam (Bears Pride Night), Volleyball Youth Skills Camp (Coach Angelina Converse), and the West Stockholm Ladies Auxiliary.

Our program also relies on the food drives held throughout the year to help offset the cost of filling the snack packs each week.

Thank you to The UPS Store in Potsdam, Save a Lot, and B99.3/STAR 100.1 for the food drives held in April and September. Other organizations hosting food drives include: InterVarsity Christian Fellowship, Jazzercise Fitness Center, Morgan Stanley Wealth Management, Sigma Chi Fraternity (Clarkson), SUNY Potsdam Lacrosse team, and Sacred Heart Academy and Girl Scout Troop 4453 from Rego Park, Queens, NY. During the 2018-2019 school year we received 9,657 individual servings of food items from the various food drives!

We are blessed to live in a community where people come together to serve others; every donation counts and makes a huge difference.
