Opinion: Madrid-Waddington Central School board candidate cites experience, education

My name is Christopher Pryce and I would like to announce my candidacy for the Madrid-Waddington Central School Board.

I am proud to be a third generation graduate of Madrid-Waddington Central. Madrid-Waddington provided me with the education and building blocks that have paved my journey to the present.

Throughout my education, I was involved in many extra-curricular activities, including roles in the school musicals, a member of Star Dust, and from the time I was old enough to shoot, kick or throw a ball, I was either on the court or in the field playing basketball, soccer or baseball. All character-building activities, I am grateful MW provided.

After graduation in 2004, my journey began with attending Herkimer Community College where I was a member of their nationally ranked soccer team, graduating in 2006 with a degree in cyber security.

I continued my education at the SUNY Potsdam, receiving my bachelor of arts degree in sociology.

In 2008, I moved with my wife, Brooke, to her native state of Rhode Island, where we resided for eight (8) years. While residing in Rhode Island, I worked as a district sales manager for a lawn care company, was a community service officer with the Warwick Police Department, and a professional magician and co-founder of Magical Minds.

My wife and I began our family in 2011, welcoming our oldest daughter, Hannah. In 2016, we welcomed our second daughter, Grace. It was at this time, Brooke and I decided we wanted to raise our children in the country, surrounded by extended family. Without question, we knew the Madrid-Waddington community was where we wanted to plant our roots.

Our daughter, Hannah, entered kindergarten at Madrid-Waddington in September 2016, and will be a fourth grader in September 2020, and Grace, our little tornado, will be attending UPK. I am extremely proud that the course has been set for our family’s fourth generation graduates of Madrid-Waddington Central School.

I am an active member of my community, in all aspects. I serve on the United Church of Madrid Board, as chairman of the Pastoral Committee. As a former student/athlete at MW, it is now my honor and privilege to continue participating in the programs at Madrid-Waddington, both as a father, and as a mentor to all students. Currently, I am a coach for our youth soccer programs , and the assistant soccer coach for the MW boys varsity soccer team.

In 2017, with the assistance of fellow MW alumni, I organized an alumni soccer game, initially to join together for some camaraderie with old teammates. The event is now an annual event held during the Dan Rose Soccer weekend, and serves as a fundraiser for the youth soccer program at MW.

My wife and I own and operate “Consider It Done Cleaning Services,” a residential cleaning service, offering cleaning services to the greater St. Lawrence County area. I am also currently in the process of continuing my education to obtain my master’s degree.

I am confident my life experiences, solid education and family foundations, combined with my genuine and heartfelt goal of serving and providing opportunities to the youth of our school/community will serve as an asset to the Madrid Waddington School Board. We live in the best School District in the County. I will listen to the people of our community and represent our District with respect and integrity. I thank you in advance for your support and vote!

To my knowledge there will be two positions open on the school board, so I would also like to take this time to put my support behind Ryan Hayes as he is also campaigning for a position on the board. Ryan has always been a role model to me. From watching him on the sports field and court at MW, to watching how he carried himself off the field and court, he was nothing less than a class act. He will also be a fantastic representative for our community. Vote for Christopher Pryce and Ryan Hayes as your next school board members.

All my best during this very difficult time in our world. Stay safe and healthy!

Christopher Pryce
