Opinion: Don’t go backward when voting for town council, says Hopkinton town councilwoman

Hopkinton voters need to come out on Tuesday, Nov. 5! This year we have another crucial vote. Steven Parker and Sue Lyon are not running for re-election, leaving two councilman seats open.

Debbie Rust is trying to fill one of those seats. Her husband was the town supervisor when industrial wind first approached the town and assisted with the first wind law that encouraged development.

Debbie herself has been employed by Avangrid. She ran their Parishville office, attended all Hopkinton and Parishville Board meetings and Parishville Planning Board, and Hopkinton Wind Advisory Board meetings. She often spoke on behalf of Avangrid and accompanied them door-to-door trying to gain support for industrial wind turbines.

Debbie would like to tell you that the town needs the money. Hopkinton is doing just fine on our budget. We need councilmembers who will look out for you -- not big business. We have a fiscally sound town, we have a protective wind law.

Lets not go backward. Vote Jeff Snell and Jody Wenzel. Both have shown their dedication to our community and its residents.
