I am a professional with an office on Rt. 11 about a mile from the Cascade Inn in Canton. Along that route the speed limit changes from 30 to 45 miles per hour. One frequently sees law enforcement sitting there waiting to hand out tickets.
No problem there, except that 80% of the time the law enforcement agency is the U.S. Border Patrol, a division of Federal Homeland Security.
Are we funding a federal agency to hand out speeding tickets?
Does this bother anyone else?
Up until now I have kept my opinion to myself but today I feel obligated to write.
One may make a seemingly plausible excuse that local law enforcement needs a hand. Hogwash!
This morning I passed my friendly neighborhood Border Patrol federal employee sitting where the speed limit changes, waiting to hand out traffic tickets as usual. Then I found a State Trooper sitting in the driveway of the Tallman House not 50 yards from our friendly federal employee also positioned to give pursuit of vehicle and traffic law offenders.
Shortage of law enforcement personnel? I think not. Clearly too many federal tax dollars are being used any way they can to keep up the flow of dollars?
I object.
