POTSDAM -- Leon Lufkin of Potsdam recently set three TRIB team records and qualified for the Adirondack All-Star team and swam at the 2015 Eastern Zone Age Group Short Course Championship March 26 to 28 at the Webster Aquatic Center in Webster.

Lufkin set three new club records for the 50 breaststroke (33.99), 100 IM (1:10.62) and 200 breaststroke (2:42.26), making him top of the Adirondacks team competitors in the event.

To qualify for the Adirondack All-Star team required an AA USA Swimming cut time and a top three finish in their age group during the recent Adirondack Gold Championship.

The All-Star team competed against 11 swimming committees in the Eastern Zone of USA Swimming including Allegheny Mountain, Connecticut, Maine, Maryland, Metropolitan, Middle Atlantic, New England, New Jersey, Niagara, Potomac Valley and Virginia.

During the three day Championship Leon competed in the 100-yard Individual Medley placing 23rd, and the 50, 100 & 200-yard breaststroke placing 22nd, 23rd and 21st respectively.

“This is an awesome accomplishment for one of our younger swimmers and a great experience to share with teammates,” said Northern TRIBS Swimming Head Coach Joshua Jock.

After Elizabeth Dempsey of Potsdam in 2010 and Julia Domena of Waddington in 2012, Leon is the third swimmer Coach Jock has had qualify for this elite level of competition. “We hope that more swimmers will strive to reach their goals and become successful though our programs.”

“It was fun!,” Lufkin said.
