OGDENSBURG -- “Summer Fragrance, 2014” by Sharon H.J. Cheng of Potsdam won the “Best in Show” award for the 2019 Members’ Juried Art Exhibit at the Frederic Remington Art Museum.

Juror Rich Fedorchak said of the 18-by-24-inch oil painting, “While I only rarely work in an abstract manner, I have always been intrigued with abstract art, its mystery and meanings. How can non-representational patterns, forms and colors elicit such a wide variety of primal emotional reactions in us? What made this painting so compelling to me was the juxtaposition of the soft gently swirling colors and the hard edged black abstract forms. It gave the work a sense of three dimensionality and movement as if these black forms are moving on a plane in front of the swirling color field. Beautifully realized.”

“The Eggmen Court, 2018,” by Thomas Novosel, technical pen on bristol paper, won the second place award.

“Beyond the Fence, 2018,” by Gary Larsen, black and white infrared photograph, won the third place award.

The public is invited to view the exhibition, either in person at the museum, 303 Washington St., or online at fredericremington.org, and vote for the Public’s Choice award. which will be presented at the end of the exhibition on Sept. 16. One vote per person, please
