MASSENA – Massena Memorial Hospital honored its employees during Healthcare Foodservice Workers Week
The annual celebration is to recognize the hardworking individuals who are committed to providing healthy, nutritious meals to patients and visitors, according to a MMH press release.
This year, Healthcare Foodservice Workers Week began Oct. 6.
“Massena Memorial Hospital’s Nutrition Services staff deserves recognition for playing a crucial role in keeping patients healthy,” the release said.
MMH’s Nutrition Services department consists of 20 staff members, including cooks, dietary attendants, dietary technicians and a registered dietician. The cooks and dietary attendants are responsible for preparing and serving meals and maintaining the cleanliness of their equipment. Dietary attendants man the service line in the cafeteria as well as take hot carts to the floors to deliver patient meals.
The hospital’s registered dietician and dietary technicians manage patients’ diets based on their knowledge of various types of nutrition therapy and provide patient education. Together, the staff members nourish patients and make sure their dietary needs are met.
Jen Benware, Foodservice Supervisor, said, “The crew we have here is great. They are all team players and work hard each and every day. On top of that, they are always trying to make their coworkers, patients and visitors smile. MMH is very lucky to have them.”
