Massena's Wright to receive DAR scholarship

Wright was one of more than a dozen students who entered their essay on the topic of "How does good citizenship contribute to building a strong country in a rapidly changing world."

Her essay noted that a good citizen should be someone who is involved with the issues of the day, makes their voice heard by speaking up and voting. A good citizen works with their community: volunteering their time, donating to food to a food pantry, donating to a charity if possible, and spreading kindness.

"Confidence goes a long way, just like kindness and it can help anyone be an amazing citizen in our growing country and the world," Wright wrote. "By being a stronger citizen, we are making our community, government and world stronger because the people are what change the world, not the world-changing people."

She is the proud daughter of a veteran and wrote: "Soldiers, like my father once was, are still fighting for this country from the outside, so why can't the rest of us fight to save this country from the inside before it collapses."

Wright was very active at Massena Central School before the COVID-19 pandemic sent all the students into virtual education.

She participated in the school musical and music select groups; was on the honor roll, volunteered in Police Activities League, the local nursing home, and donated to the Massena Humane Society, Salvation Army and local food pantries.

Wright plans on attending at two or four year college program in nursing or health.

The Nihanawate Chapter DAR was established in 1924 and currently has more than 50 members from around the County. The group meets monthly September through November, and April through July working on patriotic, educational and conservation programs.
