Little River Community School in Canton graduates five students

CANTON -- Little River Community School announced the graduation of Eli Schechter, Kira Molnar, Andrew Walter, Rose Fetcie, and Alex Calk recently.

Each student presented their senior theses and portfolio via Zoom to classmates, staff, and family and planted a flower on May 21 to mark the last day. The graduation ceremony with family and friends has been scheduled for Aug. 15.

Eli Schechter, the son of Paula Youmell and Jay Schechter of Hannawa Falls, has attended Little River's four-room schoolhouse from kindergarten through twelfth grade. He took his twelfth-grade classes at The Clarkson School and graduated with a GPA of 3.51.

Eli will continue his studies at Clarkson University, majoring in psychology.

He did his internship with the county sheriff's department and plans to go into law enforcement upon graduation.

Kira Molnar, the daughter of Kerstin Tengeler and Steve Molnar of Canton, has also been with Little River from kindergarten through twelfth grade and graduated with a GPA of 3.71. Kira has a special interest in art and has worked with and interned with several artists. Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs accepted her through their early decision program. Kira plans to study liberal arts and art.

Andrew Walter (AJ), the son of Shelby Connelly of Colton, joined Little River in sixth grade and is graduating with a GPA of 3.60. Andrew took two chemistry classes at St. Lawrence University this year through the High School Enrichment Program.

He interned at Sandstone Family Dentistry in Canton. Andrew was accepted through early decision to attend St. Lawrence University in the fall. He will be studying science and taking pre-med classes and would like to become a dentist.

Rose Fetcie, the child of Steve and Julie Fetcie of Potsdam, enrolled in Little River in seventh grade after attending St. Mary's school in Canton, and is graduating with a 3.41 GPA.

Rose is passionate about art and studied with local artist Ola Aldous to complete their internship. Rose is planning to attend SUNY Potsdam in the fall to further their studies in art.

Alex Calk, the child of Donna Calk of Canton spent her last two years of high school studying at Little River and she is graduating with a 2.92 GPA.

Alex is passionate about issues of social justice including gender, race, and climate. Alex was awarded the Rachel Somers Grant Social Action Award from Unitarian Universalist Church in Canton for organizing the local Monthly Climate Action Vigil.

Alex will be attending St. John's College in Annapolis Maryland to study liberal arts.
