Clarkson University announces appointments of three assistant professors

POTSDAM – Clarkson University announced the appointment of three assistant professors last fall.

Jianhua Zhang has been appointed assistant professor of electrical and computer engineering. She previously served as a postdoctoral research associate at the Power Systems Engineering Center, National Renewable Energy Laboratory; research assistant at Future Renewable Electric Energy Delivery and Management Systems Engineering Research Center at North Carolina State University; research assistant at Langmuir Laboratory at New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology; and telecommunication engineer at Fujian Nokia Telecommunications Ltd.

Michelle (Mi-Jeong) Yoo has been appointed assistant professor of biology. She received her Ph.D. in botany from the University of Florida and her master of science and bachelor of science degrees in biology from Seoul National University. Yoo's research interests are in polyploid evolution, focusing on the well-known systems, cotton, Brassica, and Tragopogon; the impact of polyploidy on crop domestication and plant speciation; stress-response in plant systems using various omics tools; integrated study of transcriptomics, proteomics, and metabolomics; and phylogenomics and evolution of flowering plants.

Yang Yang has been appointed assistant professor of civil and environmental engineering. He received his Ph.D. in environmental engineering from Tsinghua University and his bachelor of engineering in environmental engineering from South China University of Technology. Yang's research interests include the synthesis and characterization of advanced nanomaterials, and their environmental catalytic applications in water treatment, flue gas purification, and value-added chemical production.
