Tuesday, July 9, 2019 - 11:48 am

Come listen and dance to the tunes of New Horizons Swing Band at 4:30 p.m. July 11 at Ives Park Gazebo during the Potsdam Summer Festival. The group will play until about 6 p.m. The Swing Band, a group of 23, will play old Big Band favorites such as “It Don’t Mean a Thing If It Ain’t Got That Swing,” “Basin Street Blues,” “Take the ‘A’ Train,” “Georgia On My Mind,” “Secret Love,” and “Perfidia.” Also on the program are the classics, “Sweet Georgia Brown,” “Mack the Knife,” Harlem Nocturne,” “Tangerine,” and “All of Me.” More recent compositions include “Rock This Town,” “You Are the Sunshine of My Life,” “Mercy, Mercy, Mercy.” Trumpeter Julie Degone will be featured on “Closer Than You Think,” a beautiful ballad composed by Potsdam’s own Bret Zvacek, who is director of jazz studies at the Crane School of Music.
