SpiritFest

Diversity in STEM

POTSDAM: SUNY Potsdam will host visiting scholars, students and faculty for a special Diversity in STEM Event on Oct. 4 and 5; promotes diverse perspectives and discuss the importance of inclusivity in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM); free and open to the public; "A Day of STEM," opening ceremony at 9:30 a.m. in the Wagner Institute for Sustainability and Ecological Research, located in Stowell Hall; panel discussion from 10-11:30 a.m. in Stowell Hall Room 211, featuring visiting researchers; 11:30 a.m.-5 p.m., there will be an array of hands-on activities and presentations, including a diversity in STEM art display, an augmented reality sandbox activity, Google Mars demonstration, animal room visits, tours of the geology museum and the new geoscience garden, and a sustainable agriculture demonstration in the WISER Greenhouse; awards for the best student poster presentations will also be given.

Family Fun Day

HOPKINTON: Mandaville Camp & Retreat Center, 165 Sheldon Rd., will host its annual Family Fun Day event, noon-4 p.m.; bounce house, a chalk artist and puppeteer presentation, the corn maze, hay rides, archery shoot, an outdoor photo booth, face painting, hiking camp trails or making a craft, all free; food and drink for purchase; 315-328-8036, director@campmandaville.org.

Art reception

Theology lecture

CANTON: Dr. Mary Ford, associate professor of theology at St. Tikhon's Orthodox Theological Seminary (South Canaan, Pa.) will present a lecture, “What or Whom Shall We Feat? Beginning to Understand the Revelation of John,” 7:30 p.m., Atwood Chapel on the St. Lawrence University campus; 6:30 p.m. vespers prior to the lecture; will examine background, context, and themes for this most misunderstood biblical book.

Green Home Tour

Fall Festival

DEKALB JUNCTION: Craft & Vendor Fall Festival, 10 a.m.-3 p.m., Hermon-DeKalb Central School, free admission; crafters, vendors, bake sale, games and activities for the kids.

Halloween Festival

NORFOLK: Norfolk Halloween Festival, scheduled for Oct. 3-6, will feature live music, fireworks, Halloween candy hunt, rummage sale, carnival games and more; carnival games for kids, pumpkin painting, face painting and a vendor show will be held from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. at the arena; also at the arena, there will also be a petting zoo from 10 a.m.-1 p.m., a pie eating contest at 10 a.m., belly dancer performance at 10 a.m. and coffin races at 11 a.m.; rummage sale at the Raymondville Methodist Church will continue from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. on Saturday. The day's activities will also feature a parade at 1 p.m. with horse-drawn carriage rides to follow; Coach's Tavern will stage a corn hole tournament at 4 p.m. and a chicken wing contest at 7 on Saturday.
