Seaway’s 60th event
MASSENA: The Saint Lawrence Seaway Development Corporation will host a public event to commemorate the Seaway’s 60th Anniversary, 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m., Dwight D. Eisenhower Lock and Visitors’ Center, 76 Barnhart Island Road; event will include dignitaries from the U.S. and Canada, including federal, state, and local representatives, as well as stakeholders from the commercial navigation industry, said a newsletter from the SLSDC; those planning to attend should RSVP to SLSDC@dot.gov by Friday, Sept. 13; accommodation requests related to a disability should be made by Tuesday, Sept. 10 to Julie Kuenzler, EEO, Labor Relations & Employee Development Manager at Julie.Kuenzler@dot.gov or 315-764-3230.
Frog sniffing dog
CANTON: Nature Up North is hosting a wildlife detector dog demonstration on Tuesday, Sept. 24 from 5:30-6:30 p.m. featuring Newt, a young Labrador retriever, who learning to find and alert to Eastern Spadefoot Toads; Wachtmeister Field Station, County Route 27; Newt, SLU student/handler Hannah Duffy, and SLU Biologist Kris Hoffmann will host the discussion about frogs, dogs, and conservation; Newt will mingle with the crowd and demonstrate his talents; free and all ages welcome; RSVP to info@natureupnorth.org or by contacting Nature Up North on social media @natureupnorth.
