Moonlight ski, shoe

MASSENA: Guided moonlight ski & snowshoe with nature center staff; free event including gear rentals; building and outside fire open for hot cocoa and hanging out; 6-8 p.m.; groups go out promptly at 6 and 7 p.m. but come early if borrowing gear; weather dependent, call or check Facebook for updates; Nicandri Nature Center, 19 Robinson Bay Rd.

Family snowshoe

CANTON: Family snowshoe, 10:30 a.m.-12 p.m., at Indian Creek Nature Center, 770 County Road 14, Rensselaer Falls, Canton Winterfest event; learn the basics of traveling in the snow while looking for signs of winter animal visitors; snowshoes can be borrowed at no cost for children and their guardians.

Ice fishing derby

WADDINGTON: Sons of the American Legion Waddington Post 420’s 19th annual ice fishing derby, sunrise until 4 p.m. Boundaries: Iroquois Dam to Coles Creek Marina & all connecting water in between. Entry $25 per person, under 16 free. Cash awards to registrants with heaviest Northern pikes 5 p.m. award ceremony at Waddington American Legion.

Rabbit hunt

Parishville Fire Company’s 24th Annual Rabbit Hunt, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Registration is from 7:30 to 9 a.m. at the Parishville Firemen’s Field Hall, $20. Fishing derby

GOUVERNEUR: Gouverneur Fire Department’s Annual Ice Fishing Derby; open boundary derby with all prizes being awarded at the fire station at 4:30 p.m.; $1000 cash prize based on 100 entries; entry fee is $15 for kids and $20 for adults; more details can be located on the Gouverneur Fire Department Facebook page.
