Haunting on Church St.

MASSENA: Temple’s Haunting, 5-9 p.m., Greater Massena Chamber of Commerce, 16 Church St.; proceeds will help support the chamber, $1000 will be donated to Massena Youth Football League; $5 per person.

Stargazing campfire

CANTON: Stargazing campfire, 7:30 p.m., Wachtmeister Field Station; Nature Up North invites you to a night of stargazing and astronomy at a campfire with St. Lawrence University Physics Professor Aileen O'Donoghue; short discussion, followed by the opportunity to join Aileen in small groups at a telescope set up a short distance away; free and open to the public, with water and s’ mores provided; to get there, proceed south down Park St. about ¼ mi past the campus athletic fields, drive will be on the left coming from the SLU campus and right if coming from Route 27.

Remington haunting

OGDENSBURG: Frederic Remington Art Museum, 303 Washington St., invites the public to its Remington Haunting: A Family Event; “ghosts and apparitions” will take over the Museum; heart-stopping ghost tour, scaredy cat walk on the main floor; sponsored by America 1 Realty; $5 per person.

Trivia night

CANTON: Trivia with Quizmaster General Dan Crytser, 7:30-9:30 p.m., Buccaneer Lounge, 4 W. Main St.

Poetry slam

CANTON: “Speaking for Myself” Poetry Slam, 7 p.m., part of the “Justice for All: Community Conversations on Crime and Imprisonment in the North Country” conference at Unitarian Universalist Church of Canton from Oct. 18-20; slam will feature original poems by local writers and by writers who are incarcerated on the impact of incarceration on individuals, families, and communities; reception to follow, public invited; www.uucantonny.org.

Dinner theatre

CANTON: Canton United Methodist Church will host a dinner theatre production of “Virgil and the City Slickers,” 5 p.m., will feature meat or veggie lasagna, salad, drinks and dessert of brownies and ice cream; $15 for adults, children 12 and younger pay $6; seating is limited; call Carol at 315-379-9709 or the church at 315-386-4500 to reserve tickets.

Book sale, membership

OGDENSBURG: Friends of the Ogdensburg Public Library invite the public to its annual Fall Book Sale and Membership Drive at the Ogdensburg Public Library, 9 a.m.-5 p.m.; hard cover ($3) and children’s books (50 cents), DVDs ($2), CDs and puzzles ($1); “Friends” members receive 50% off purchases throughout the sale.
