Cornell Cooperative Extension’s annual Local Foods Weekend is set for Sept. 8-10 to celebrate local food producers in St. Lawrence County. Local Foods Weekend is a 3-day celebration of the products and the people that grow, raise, sell or prepare food in and near St. Lawrence County. More than 30 public events are to be hosted by participating food producers and businesses around the county. Tours, samples, demonstrations and other activities are planned. The event is organized by the Extension, but all events listed are hosted by individual businesses. Trail work planned

POTSDAM – The Laurentian Chapter of the Adirondack Mountain Club will conduct trail work on the Red Sandstone Trail on Saturday, Sept. 16. Projects will vary depending on weather and participants but may include brush cutting, posting trail signs, installing posts, building bridges, bench cutting, and rock moving. Horse show

HAMMOND — A horse show will be held Saturday, Sept. 16, at 9 a.m., as part of this year’s Hammond 4H & FFA Fair, to be held at the Hammond Fairgrounds in mid-September. Free entry for ages 18 & under, and $5 per class entry for adult equestrians. Following the conclusion of the Horse Show, there will be a Horse Tack Sale where riders with extra horse equipment and tack can sell, and riders in need can buy tack and equipment. OGDENSBURG — The First Presbyterian Church of Ogdensburg is sponsoring the 2023 Amazing Race Around Ogdensburg which will require participants to solve clues to identify places around the city of Ogdensburg at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 16. Book sale

NORWOOD — The Friends of the Norwood Public Library will stage a book sale at the Norwood Autumn Festival, held on the Village Green on Saturday, Sept. 16 from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. $5 per bag. Individual books can also be purchased for $1 for hardcover, 50 cents for soft cover, and 10 cents for children’s books.

Meet the Candidates

HERMON — The Hermon-DeKalb Community Facebook Group is hosting a Meet the Candidates event at the Hermon Fire Hall, 1650 County Road 21, on Sept. 16 from 3-5 p.m. Originally, both Hermon and DeKalb candidates were to attend, but the DeKalb candidates will be doing their own events. Candidates will set up tables to chat with residents and answer questions about their campaigns. Crime mystery author

MASSENA — An author visit with Tessa Wegert, who has written the thrilling Shana Merchant series, will be visiting Massena Public Library Saturday, Sept. 16, at 1 p.m. Wegert has written two crime mystery books set in the Thousand Islands with Senior Investigator Shana Merchant, “Death in the Family” and “The Dead Season.”
