Colton Winterfest
COLTON: 2020 Town of Colton Winterfest from Jan. 23-26, “100 Years of Progress – Equal Rights for All,” commemorates town celebration’s history from 1920-2020; benefits the Neighborhood Center serving Colton, Pierrepont and Parishville; throughout the festival, fundraising for Neighborhood Center including a silent auction of fine and folk art including Dick Bailey print, Judy Filarecki paintings, Stephen Hewer pyrography, locally painted barn quilts, and more, Art Around Town installations including the unveiling of Winterfest barn quilt mural, baby barn quilts, and more, Remembrance Trees, 42 trees displayed in the hamlets of South Colton and Colton, open skating in the pavilion at Swift Field (weather dependent) at times to be announced; 8 a.m.-noon, 8th Annual International Breakfast at CPCS cafeteria, 4921 State Highway 56; breakfast bakes, waffles made to order, muffins, sausage, eggs, and more; $8 adults, $6 seniors and children ages 6-13 years old, free for children 5 years and younger; 8 a.m.-1 p.m. Second day of free clothing giveaway at CPCS auditorium lobby; 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Family Day at Higley Flow State Park, 442 Cold Brook Drive, introduction to ski-joring (with dog), orienteering (map) challenge, gear swap, and potluck lunch; 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Second day of Annual Quilt Show at three venues; details listed above; 11 a.m. Frying pan toss at Colton-Pierrepont Amvets Post 262, 5082 State Highway 56, $5 to compete plus food for sale after competition; three categories of competition; goes until all registrants have competed; 12-1 p.m. Foul shooting contest for grades K-12 in CPCS gymnasium; registration from 12-12:15 p.m.; competition starts at 12:15 p.m.; no fee; 5 age groups, grades K-2, 3-4, 5-6, 7-8 and 9-12; awards to female and male winner in each age group; 1 p.m. Lena the Lizard Lady in CPCS auditorium, no fee, snakes, chameleons, and other reptiles; 2-6 p.m. Cardboard sled races and sledding party at Racquette Valley Fish & Game Club, no fee; bring pre-built sled made of cardboard, tape, and paint to race; 4 age groups 5-9, 10-12, 13-18, and adult; judging starts at 2:30 p.m.; racing starts at 3 p.m.; prizes awarded; open sledding with bonfire and hot chocolate after race.
