Dust off your parrot and get out your best eye patch for this year’s Tri-Town Summer Festival, themed “Pirates and Scallywags Walk the Plank,” and running Thursday through Sunday, Aug. 4-7.

Festival committee chairperson Julia Rose says a bunch of new events have been added to the four days this year, beginning Friday night with the 4-Man AmazingTreasure Hunt, beginning at 6 at the Brasher-Winthrop Fire Department. Teams depart on an “Amazing Race” style pursuit of treasure, but no motorized vehicles can be used. Contestants may walk, ride bikes or even roller blade. The winners receive a treasure chest full of prizes.

Saturday features the return of the 10th Mountain Division Band in the parade at 11 a.m., with an added treat of a free performance following the parade at the arena. Then there’s a new eating contest at PrimaBella’s, with pizza for the kids and hot dogs for adults. Cash prizes will be awarded.

Also new on Saturday is a blind tricycle rally with blindfolded adults being directed by kids, and two free outdoor movies on a 20-foot screen in the high school athletic field at night.

For the first time, North Lawrence is having a chicken barbecue and lawn mower races at 11 a.m. Sunday, and people will see if their cardboard boats can stay afloat in the first-ever cardboard boat races at the high school.
