CANTON –Well-known caning instructor Carlton Stickney will teach a three-part workshop on the craft of chair caning on three consecutive Wednesdays: March 4, 11 and 18 from 7:00–9:00 p.m., at the St. Lawrence County Historical Association (SLCHA).
Participants should bring a chair with old caning removed. A chair that takes a caned seat has holes visible on the top and underside. It is expected that participants will be able to complete the caning of one chair during the course of the workshop.
The workshop fee is $53 for members and $63 for nonmembers.; to register, send name, address, phone number, email and nonrefundable payment to SLCHA. Minimum is five participants; maximum is eight. Early registration is encouraged.
Caning materials are included in the cost of the workshop. Additional supplies to bring are: scissors, an awl, a paring knife, a few clothespins, a rag, and a small water container.
