CANTON -- Traditional Arts in Upstate New York, 53 Main St., will present a conversation with Camilla Ammirati, TAUNY research and programs director, and local artist Loretta Lepkowski about their work on the Venerable Folks of Tug Hill project and exhibition, Thursday, March 30, from 3-4:30 p.m.

At this program, Ammirati and Lepkowski will present highlights of their research and discuss how they brought their folkloric and artistic perspectives together to document and share Tug Hill stories. The presentation will include a chance to see further images and hear some of the voices of this project. Light refreshments will be served and a Q&A will follow the presentation.

In preparation for the current exhibition, Camilla and Loretta conducted a series of interviews over 2015-2016 with residents of Tug Hill.

These individuals were distinguished by their vast knowledge and experience of the area as well as their substantial contributions to the quality of life of the community.

Lepkowski also painted portraits of each of the people interviewed.

In 2016, TAUNY partnered with Tug Hill Tomorrow Land Trust and Tug Hill Commission to produce this small traveling exhibition featuring 15 residents of Tug Hill titled Venerable Folks of Tug Hill. The traveling exhibit has been touring the Watertown region since October 2016. Venerable Folks of Tug Hill will remain on view at The TAUNY Center through mid-May 2017.
