POTSDAM -- SUNY Potsdam's School of Education and Professional Studies will feature more than a dozen presenters during its Virtual Conference on Special Education, set for Friday, March 20, from 9 a.m.-3 p.m.

The online conference will bring together pre-service and in-service educators, researchers, parents, professors and students in the SUNY system, at North Country schools and beyond, to discuss persistent issues in special education and how educators can do better.

The event will center on discussions of evidence-based teaching strategies and effective inclusive practices to improve the learning outcomes and life quality for students with special needs.

Topics include support for dyslexic learners, use of martial arts training to develop mental focus and physical skills, therapy dog interactions in the classroom, and more generally, culturally responsive education and its role in the provision of equitable, just and effective experiences for students receiving special education services.

Sessions will be presented in a webinar format, to allow for information sharing, discussion and networking.

Each session will last 45 minutes, with the first 20 to 30 minutes reserved for presentations and the remaining time slotted for questions and discussion.

Continuing Teacher and Leader Education (CTLE) credit is available for New York State teachers.
