St. Lawrence County organizations, churches and businesses adjust to changes with cancelations, new services

St. Lawrence County organizations, churches and businesses continue to make adjustments to their operating hours, cancel events and some services and offer other services in light of the coronavirus situation.

Starting this week, the North Country Children's Museum science and art educators will offer online STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and math) projects to do at home. Everyday, household materials can be used for these fun family projects, said a press release from the museum.

The Children's Museum's online STEAM at HOME videos will air on social media throughout the closure.

Visit the North Country Children's Museum on Facebook and Instagram. The museum, located on Raymond Street in Potsdam, is scheduled to reopen to the public in April. For more information, contact info@northcountrychildrensmuseum.org.

The Canton United Methodist Church, 41 Court St., will not be hosting any in person church services for the next two weeks. Pastor Nancy will be delivering her sermons on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/CantonUMCNewYork. Call 315-386-4500 for more information.

Massena Public Library closed to the public at 5 p.m. on Monday, March 16 for an indefinite period of time. Patrons are encouraged to utilize the library’s ebook and online resources available on the Massena Public Library website. The St. Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department will suspend its planned pistol safety classes until further notice. The sheriff will be returning payment to the registrants who had signed up for the upcoming classes. The program will restart when circumstances allow said the sheriff.

The Trillium Wellness Center Board of Directors has suspended all classes and workshops at its Potsdam location. Individuals may still obtain services with the center’s healing arts practitioners. There will be some class offerings posted on the center’s website at trillumwellnesscenter.org in the coming days. The center plans to monitor the public health situation and will reopen when it is safe to do so.

Active shooter training classes planned by the Canton Chamber of Commerce scheduled for Monday, March 30 have been cancelled. The chamber will reschedule this training at a latter date, said Tammy Mackin, chamber executive director.

The Lawrenceville Fire Department’s monthly breakfast scheduled for April 5 has been cancelled.

The Norwood Public Library Board of Trustees will hold their monthly meeting via teleconference on March 19 at 6:30 p.m. The Norwood Public Library building is closed for renovations. All meetings are open to the public. The meeting will be recorded and minutes will be transcribed. To join the meeting dial (425) 436-6342 and enter access code 881337.

The Gallery at Lake Saint Lawrence Arts at 10 Main Street, Waddington, will be closed until further notice. The gallery’s Spring Into Art juried show and sale and the opening reception on April 3 is cancelled until further notice. All artists will be contacted with further instructions.

The Lisbon Fire Department will hold its weekly fish fry event this Friday, March 20 but will only be serving take out orders. Phone pre-orders are strongly encouraged and will start at 3 p.m. Pickups will start at 4:30 p.m. and end at 7 p.m. To place your order call 315-393-5531. The entire station and kitchen have been thoroughly cleaned and we will provide the same quality dinners that patrons have always had, said a press release from the department.

Worship at the Massena United Methodist Church will be suspended for the next two weeks, March 22, and March 29th. Further suspensions of worship will be announced if and when they happen. Parishioners are encouraged to join Josh Barkley and Pastor Rachael at 11 a.m. each of the next two Sunday mornings on Facebook Live! There will be other options to access worship besides Facebook, but the church is still working on it said a press release.

All other activities on and around the Massena United Methodist Church facilities or church sponsored events are cancelled. That includes, choir, bible studies, small groups, Scouts (which have already cancelled), and even committee meetings. The Church Council meeting scheduled for Wednesday night will be rescheduled as a virtual meeting in the next week and the church expects other meetings to be handled the same.

The community meal at the Massena United Methodist Church will continue this week on a to-go basis. It will be closed until further notice following Thursday's meal. The church office will be closed and locked to visitors.

Effective immediately the following changes are being made to the Rensselaer Falls Fire & Rescue's upcoming events:

The annual banquet, scheduled for March 28, has been postponed. New date TBA.

Bingo, scheduled to start April 7, has been postponed until further notice.

Use of the hall and public gatherings are postponed until further notice.

The annual auction has been cancelled.
