SLU's University Chorus to stage concert of movie songs in Canton, Heuvelton

CANTON -- University Chorus, a production of St. Lawrence University, will pay tribute to great songs from the golden age of cinema spanning 1930 to 1965 in a program titled “Movie Night” in Heuvelton on April 13 and Canton on April 14.

Sung in choral arrangements and as solo songs, University Chorus will perform hits made famous by Judy Garland (“Over the Rainbow, Trolly Song, Zing Went the Strings of My Heart”), Fred Astaire (“They Can’t Take That Away from Me,” “Puttin’ on the Ritz” and “Easter Parade”) Frank Sinatra (“High Hopes” and “Serenade in Blue”) Bing Crosby (“White Christmas” and “Swingin’ on a Star”) Gene Kelly (“Singing in the Rain”), The Andrews Sisters (“Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy”), Andy Williams (“Moon River”) and others.

The performance will include accompanist Max Howard. University Chorus will perform at 7 p.m. on Friday, April 13, at Pickens Hall in Heuvelton with an offering collected.

A free performance will be held at 8 p.m. on Saturday, April 14, at St. Lawrence University’s Peterson-Kermani Performance Hall.
