POTSDAM – The community is invited to two annual tree lighting ceremonies and receptions this weekend.
Hospice and Palliative Care of St. Lawrence Valley is sponsoring the lighting of the Plumb tree, in memory of artist and teacher Robert Plumb, near the Clarkson Inn at 5 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 3, right after the Merry Tuba Christmas concert.
The Sweet Adelines will perform and a reception with cookies, hot chocolate and coffee will be held after the lighting in the Clarkson Inn.
The Potsdam Public Museum will feature its winter exhibit “Counting Sheep & Wool Exhibit,” at the Holiday Open House and Tree Lighting Ceremony Sunday, Dec. 4, at 5:30 p.m. with music performed by Piquant!
On display are spinning wheels, yarn winders, locally hand-woven cloth and a barn loom made in the early 1800s found in a barn in Potsdam.
The lighting of the village tree on Elm Street next to the side entrance of the village offices will be at 5 p.m. with a blessing and dedication. The reception and open house will follow immediately in the museum, located at 2 Park St., Civic Center.
The museum is free and open to the public. Everyone is welcome, and donations are accepted.
