Potsdam Clarinet Summit to feature Crane alumni Sept. 23, 24

POTSDAM -- The second annual Potsdam Clarinet Summit, featuring past and present clarinet talents from Crane School of Music will run from Friday, Sept. 23 through Saturday, Sept. 24 at The Crane School of Music.

Crane clarinet faculty members Dr. Julianne Kirk Doyle and Dr. Raphael P. Sanders Jr. will perform alongside faculty Emeritus Dr. Alan Woy in the opening recital at 5 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 23 in Snell Music Theater.

A Crane Clarinet Choir reading session on the Hosmer Concert Hall stage will follow at 6:15 p.m.

The headline artist this year is Stephen Girko, Class of 1965, who for many years served as principal clarinetist of the Dallas Symphony and is currently the principal clarinetist for the Austin Symphony Orchestra.

Girko will present a masterclass on Saturday at 10:15 a.m. in Snell Music Theater, followed by the headline recital at 5 p.m. that evening, also in Snell.

To conclude the summit, alumni and current students will combine into a large clarinet choir and perform with Girko as soloist at 6:15 p.m. on Saturday in Hosmer Concert Hall.

All concert and masterclasses are free, and the public is invited to attend.
