Ogdensburg 'Party in the Park' Saturday for 150th anniversary of city

OGDENSBURG -- As the year-long celebration of the City of Ogdensburg’s 150th anniversary continues, the Ogdensburg Parks & Recreation Department is preparing to hold its Party in the Park Aug. 11 at Library Park.

“We thought that having a party would be a great way to celebrate the 150th anniversary and we are hoping that the community comes out and has some fun. There will be food, some great entertainment and a whole host games for the kids,” said Ogdensburg Parks & Recreation Director Matthew Curatolo, who is also the chairman of the 150th Anniversary Committee.

The event will run from 1-9 p.m. Food trucks attending will be Wimpy’s, Cam’s Pizza, Kench’s Ice Cream and the Salvation Army will provide snow cones and popcorn.

There will be entertainment throughout the day, with Amy Rivera kicking it off from 1-2:30 p.m.; Pat Duffy will continue from 3-4:30 p.m. and the Oswegatchie River Boys will go from 5:30-7:30 p.m.

Fireworks, donated by the Roethels, will touch off at dusk.

There will be plenty for the youth do that day, said a press release from the city. Parks & Recreation staff will have arts and crafts and face-painting booths, the OFA Key Club and Reality Check will have full-size lawn games like Jenga and checkers and the Salvation Army will have bounce houses.

There will also be table selling glasses to commemorate the 150th anniversary for just $5.

The Party in the Park is one of many events held throughout the year to mark the 150th anniversary of the City of Ogdensburg’s incorporation.

After the Party in the Park, the 150th anniversary themed events that will follow are a Walking History Tour and City Hall Open House on Sept. 8 and the finale event which will be a Rock-N-Skate at the Lockwood Arena from 6-9 p.m. on Nov. 3.
