OGDENSBURG -- The Ogdensburg Boys and Girls Club will celebrate 55 years of serving the youth of the community with the annual birthday party Friday, Oct. 4 from 6-9 p.m.

There will be carnival games, treats, tournaments, food, bingo, bounce house from Seaway Valley Jumpers and more.

The evening will be highlighted for a drawing for a birthday cake for a lucky boy and girl member, said a press release from the club.

The local club was established in 1964 by a group of individuals who believed a place was needed for boys to go after school and evenings and moved from its’ building on State Street to the current facility on Patterson Street in 1975 as well as starting programming for girls.

The club serves youth from Ogdensburg and all the surrounding communities with an average daily attendance of 125 different youth a day during the peak months.

Along with the staff the club is directed by a group of 27 board volunteers who give of their time, talents and treasures for the benefit of club youth, the press release said.

The club offers programs in character and leadership development, health, education, STE AM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) and sports fitness and leisure.

Ogdensburg Boys and Girls Club continues to emphasize academic programming with homework and tutoring programs and reading programs. Healthy snacks are provided daily and dinner once a week.

The club also provides a pick-up program in cooperation with the Ogdensburg City School District at Madill School daily.

The kindness and generosity we receive says how much people care about the kids in this community. In tough times Boys and Girls Clubs have never been more important. We will continue to strive to make the club a safe place, where kids want to be with caring adults to serve as role models and mentors for them,” stated Thomas P.
