CANTON - The first officially sanctioned Scrabble tournament to be held in St. Lawrence County is set for Saturday, April 27 at the Best Western University Inn, 90 E. Main St.
All players will compete in eight games in the contest, sanctioned by the North American Scrabble Players Association.
Anyone may enter, but there is a limit of 40 players. The entry fee is $35 US, $45 CDN, which includes lunch. Players must be NASPA members. People may sign up at http://www2.scrabbleplayers.org/w/Membership. People may also register at the tournament that morning if there are still open slots.
People may enter by sending a check to Derry Loucks, 77 Blanchard Rd., Potsdam, NY 13676, or through PayPal to Derry1@slic.com.
Out-of-town players may stay at the Best Western for $129 single, $139 double occupancy, including breakfast. Call 315-386-8522 and ask for the Scrabble group rate.
The schedule: registration from 8:45 to 9:15 a.m., games one through four beginning at 9:15, and games five through eight starting at 2 p.m.
