NORWOOD – The Norwood Village Green Concert Series will conclude its 37th annual season with a special season-ending benefit concert presented by The Riverside Brass Quintet Thursday, Aug. 19 at 7 p.m. on the band shell in Norwood. St. Andrew’s Church will be the rain site.

The Riverside Brass Quintet is a relatively new ensemble, having been organized in the Spring of 2009. Even though the ensemble is new, the individual members are highly experienced brass players, active as performers and teachers throughout the region.

All members of the quintet are also performers in Northern Symphonic Winds, most are members of the Orchestra of Northern New York and three are former members of the Potsdam Brass Quintet; additionally, each one of the five has some connection with The Crane School of Music.

The quintet consists of Peter McCoy, trombone, Roy Schaberg, French horn, John Schorge, trumpet, Peter Popiel, tuba, Paul Buell, trumpet.

The Riverside Brass Quintet performs a wide variety of music – some originally written for brass quintet, some music “borrowed” or arranged for quintet. Their repertoire is varied in musical styles and chosen for its wide audience appeal as well as for its high musical quality.

The performance is free but a bucket will be passed for donations.

Donations can also be made by check as the series not only concludes its season of performances but begins to close out the books on its fiscal year which ends on Aug. 31.
