CANTON -- The St. Lawrence Citizen Journalism Incubator (SLCJI) will host a celebration of local citizen journalism work on Friday, April 19 at 7:00 p.m. at the TAUNY Center (53 Main St. in Canton). The event is free and open to the public.

The SLCJI was created in 2018 as a unique collaboration among four local media and citizen journalism organizations that bring a range of professional, citizen journalism, and citizen science experience to the project: Weave News, North Country Public Radio, The Hill News, and Nature Up North.

The project supports local residents seeking to undertake investigative journalism projects in their communities. A St. Lawrence University Innovation Grant provides funding for the SLCJI.

The April 19 event will highlight the projects undertaken by the SLCJI’s first cohort of investigative storytellers, who received initial training at a workshop last fall.

Members of the cohort include Gwendolyn Deuel, Ian Erlichman, Claudia Hoffman, Alessandra Mitrano, Rivka Rocchio, Emma Stechschulte, and Tom Van de Water.
