CANTON -- The St. Lawrence Leadership Institute will host a “Celebration of Leadership in St. Lawrence County” on Tuesday, March 19, from 5-7 p.m. at the Best Western University Inn, 90 E. Main St.

St. Lawrence Leadership Institute (SLLI) alumni, classmates, speakers and supporters are invited to network, learn about updates, and celebrate the county’s emerging leaders.

The event will be an opportunity for those looking to build their leadership skills to find out more about SLLI and talk to individuals involved in the program.

Several alumni have experienced advances in their careers and in their communities as a result of the program, which will be highlighted throughout the evening, said a press release from the chamber.

“The re-launch of the institute at SUNY Potsdam last year has added a new dimension to the curriculum, allowing for strong leadership training combined with dynamic panelists from county leaders on topics from education to agriculture to business and social issues,” said Joshua LaFave, executive director of the Division of Graduate and Continuing Education at SUNY Potsdam.

LaFave is also the co-chair of the St. Lawrence Leadership Institute.

The evening will include recognition of the NNY Business 20 Under 40 awardees from 2018 who work in St. Lawrence County.

Those awarded include Nance Arquiett (2 Mama Birds / County Legislator), Erin Draper (Clarkson University), Jamie Ashley (Community Bank NA) and Jacqueline Bill (St. Lawrence – Lewis BOCES).

Holly C. Boname, editor of NNY Magazines, will share an overview of the program and the importance of recognizing leadership in our communities.

“A ceremony was held for the 2018 awardees in December in Watertown, and we wanted to be sure to show our ‘hometown’ support for those from St. Lawrence County,” said Brooke Rouse, executive director of the St. Lawrence County Chamber of Commerce and co-chair of the St. Lawrence Leadership Institute.

The celebration is free and open to anyone interested in current and future leadership in St. Lawrence County.

Light refreshments and a cash bar will be available.
