POTSDAM -- St. Lawrence Health System will host a ‘Death Café’ presented by Hospice & Palliative Care of St. Lawrence Valley, and an Advanced Directives workshop on Wednesday, March 4, from 5-7 p.m., at Canton-Potsdam Hospital, conference rooms A and B, 50 Leroy St.

A light dinner will be served.

“Death is often an awkward topic; however, we know it is a certainty of life,” says Mary Jones, BSW, CT, Director of Family Support Services of Hospice & Palliative Care of St. Lawrence Valley. “The Death Café is a place where we can disarm much of the stigma of talking about death and dying, while even injecting a little humor, through great videos and discussion.”

Also presented will be information on Advanced Directives and MOLST (Medical Orders for Life-Sustaining Treatment), by Director of Patient Experience Keri Allen, and Jaime Odendahl, RN. “It is vital that everyone consider having Advanced Directives in place,” says Ms. Allen.

“These forms ensure that your wishes are legally upheld in the event of not being able to speak for yourself during medical treatments or emergencies.”

This event is free and open to all; however, seating is limited and RSVPs are required.

Confirm attendance by Tuesday, March 3, by contacting Deborah Chase-Lauther at 315-261-5413, or dchaselauther@cphospital.org.
