CANTON -- Cornell Cooperative Extension is presenting a Hay & Pasture School on Thursday, Feb. 27 from 6:30-9 p.m. at the Extension Learning Farm, 2043B State Highway 68.

The topic is forages for grass-fed markets. Beef, sheep and dairy farms are seeing a trend towards grass-fed meats and dairy products. Providing enough nutrients with our forages can be a challenge. Come and learn some strategies to meet your animals’ nutrient requirements with high quality forages.

Betsy Hodge, CCE livestock educator, will give a quick introduction to the types of forages you need.

Kitty O’Neil, North Country Regional Ag Team field crops specialist, and Joe Lawrence, dairy Forage systems specialist with Pro-Dairy, will follow with how to make those feeds.

Joe Lawrence will even talk about how to prioritize which fields you harvest first and how to adjust that when the weather doesn’t cooperate.

Baleage production will also be covered as an alternative to dry hay.

Registration is available on-line at http://stlawrence.cce.cornell.edu or call the Cornell Cooperative Extension Office at 315-379-9192 or email Betsy Hodge at bmf9@cornell.edu.

There is a $10 charge per person to attend and that can be paid on-line or at the door.
