CANTON -- The bad news is that we are changing the climate. The good news is that doing something about it will save money, create jobs, and develop our local economy.

Canton and Potsdam Climate Smart Communities are organizing the Green Living Fair at SUNY Canton Roos House, Saturday, April 20 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Visitors will learn how they can reduce greenhouse gas emissions and adapt to climate change by connecting with energy contractors, local farmers and community organizations. There will be music and prizes, hands-on activities for kids and adults and fun for everyone.

Organizers have prepared a checklist of actions that we can take to reduce our emissions and adapt to our changing climate.

These include switching to renewable energy, eating local food, reducing food waste, saving energy, driving less, recycling, and buying less stuff. For each action, there will be vendors and other exhibitors with tools and information needed to take action.

All of these actions save money; most create jobs and contribute to our local economy.

Canton and Potsdam Climate Smart Communities are projects of the Canton and Potsdam Municipal Governments.

Both municipalities have committed to taking action on climate change and passed resolutions encouraging all residents to participate in the Green Living Fair. Climate Smart Communities is a program of the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation (https://climatesmart.ny.gov/)

The Green Living Fair will showcase what Canton and Potsdam municipalities, educational institutions and local businesses are doing to reduce emissions and adapt to climate change.

The Fair is providing educational opportunities at all levels. Students from schools and universities are preparing posters and displays showing how they are reducing emissions and adapting to climate change.

Cornell Cooperative Extension of St. Lawrence County, SUNY Canton, Clarkson University, Local Living Venture, North Country 350 Alliance, and the Unitarian Universalist Church of Canton, have officially partnered with Canton and Potsdam to organize the Green Living Fair. North Country Public Radio is media sponsor.
