Free income tax preparation and electronic filing is offered in St. Lawrence County by the AARP Tax-Aide program. The service is available Feb. 6- April 15 in the following locations:
• Massena, Mondays and Tuesdays, 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m., Massena Community Center, 61 Beach St.;
• Potsdam, Tuesdays, 9 a.m.-1 p.m., Midtown Apts., Munson Street;
• Canton, Tuesdays, 4-8 p.m., Knights of Columbus, Miner Street; Wednesdays, 1-4 p.m., by appointment only (315-212-0409 for an appointment), Partridge Knoll, 30 Sullivan Dr.
• Ogdensburg, Thursdays, 9 a.m.-1 p.m., Ogdensburg Rescue Squad Building, former Hackett’s Store, Pickering Street.
Bring all documents showing income for 2016. Must brings last year’s tax return. Also bring photo ID and Social Security cards for anyone to be included in the tax return. Must bring state drivers license or state ID for the taxpayer and spouse.
The Tax-Aide program is not limited to serving senior citizens; AARP does not discriminate based on age. AARP tax-aides are trained to prepare returns for most taxpayers and can claim all the usual credits, child tax credit, earned income credit, education credits, etc.
