Free household hazardous waste, electronic equipment collection at Massena Transfer Station Aug. 6

MASSENA -- There will be a free household hazardous waste, electronic equipment, and pharmaceutical and controlled substance collection at the Massena Transfer Station from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 6.

Massena Transfer Station is on Dump Road off of South Main Street or State Rt. 420.

The following types of hazardous waste will be accepted:

Household batteries (excluding alkaline batteries)

Fluorescent light tubes & ballasts and compact fluorescent lights

Misc vehicle fluids

Solvents

Pesticides

Adhesives

Corrosives

Antifreeze

Epoxy resins

Pool chemicals

Polishes & waxes

Oil based paints & stains

Driveway sealers

Household cleaning products

Wood preservatives

Aerosol cans

Home chemistry sets

Photography chemicals

Products containing mercury

The following types of waste will not be accepted:

Non-residential hazardous waste (such as commercial or institutional waste generators

Waste Oil, unless contaminated with another fluid such as solvents

Materials containing PCB’s

Latex paint

Asbestos

Smoke detectors

Radioactive materials

Unsorted solid waste

Tires

Automotive batteries

Infectious waste

Construction & demolition debris

Non-hazardous recyclable materials

Explosives, flares and munitions

Business or agricultural waste

The collection is sponsored by St. Lawrence County, the Development Authority of the North Country, and the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation, and is free to all residents of Jefferson, Lewis and St. Lawrence Counties.
