Edwards Opera House hosting 8th annual North Country All-Stars performance Sunday
EDWARDS — The 8th annual North Country All-Stars will perform Sunday, May 27, at 6:30 p.m. at the Edwards Opera House, 161 Main St.
The concert, expected to be long, features about 35 local musicians playing a variety of music that should appeal to many.“We’re doing everything from Led Zeppelin to bluegrass,” said organizer Michael Welch.
“I’ve known (a lot) of these people ever since I picked up a guitar,” Welch said. “A lot of these guys belong to other bands.”
Welch said there will be between 12 to 15 separate acts and combos playing two songs each during the four hour concert.
Proceeds from the event support the Edwards Opera House.
Tickets are $15 at the door and can be purchased in advance at Brick & Mortar Music, 15 Market St. in Potsdam or by calling 315-267-6883.
Anyone traveling to Edwards from Canton, Potsdam and other points north: Due to the closure and construction of the Grass River bridge on CR 24 in the hamlet of Russell, there is a very long detour around this area. Anyone traveling from this direction would be advised to find an alternative route.
Organizers suggestions are to take US 11 to Gouverneur and then NY 58 to Edwards. Motorists could also take Park Street in Canton past the SLU campus. This becomes CR 27. Follow this to the hamlet of Degrasse where you pick up CR 17. This takes you to the Edwards-Russell Road, CR 24, where a left will take you to Edwards.
There are several other suitable routes for those familiar with the roads in this area. For those not familiar with these roads, consult a map or on-line mapping application before you travel.
